Festival Success for Pitlochry’s Winter Words

Festival Success for Pitlochry’s Winter Words

January saw the sixth Winter Words Festival take place over ten busy, programme packed days at Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Tickets sales were up 110% on last year, with attendance numbers up by 71% demonstrating that this Festival is now firmly established as a very special event on the Scottish literary calendar and a great way to kick start Perth 800 celebrations.

Visitors and authors alike were drawn to Pitlochry by the growing reputation of this Festival, as well as the opportunity to get together and connect with a wonderful array of literary stars and authors including Gyles Brandreth, Neil Oliver, Elaine C. Smith, Barbara Dickson, Joss Ackland, Alasdair Gray, John Beatty as well as taking the chance to browse the book fair, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the free, late night Fearie Tales read by actors River city actress Deirdre Davies and PFT regular Dougal Lee.

Other highlights included the return of the Gruffalo; Don Paterson’s literary lunch; Christopher Brookmyre’s razor sharp session, which was pure Pandaemonium! Then there was the Gardner’s World presenter Alys Fowler, local literary and music legends Pete Clark & Kenneth Steven, as well as author and climber Andy Kirkpatrick presentation and talk – simply breathtaking!
